SJI Farmers Market Friends

Gretchen Allison is teaching a cooking class at the April 1st Farmers Market. She is showcasing Layne Sandberg’s Quail Croft Cheese and fixing up a spring goat cheese salad for participants! After 15+ years vending at the farmers market, it is Layne’s last season selling goat cheese. We’ll miss her. Please help us spread the word. See details of the cooking class below. 
Cooking Class Details:
Saturday, April 1st from 11am – 1pm at the SJI Farmers Market
Brickworks, 150 Nichols Street
Cost: $8, per person
The $8 covers the basic cost of ingredients. Additional donations are gladly accepted.

The flower farmer co-op is bursting with beautiful spring blooms!  Most of the product is coming from Oregon and California but we’re seeing Washington product starting to arrive which is always a sure sign nicer weather is on the horizon!

A Poetry Walk Up Mount Grant Preserve

April is Poetry Month - let's celebrate the poetry of nature! The Poetry Walk will feature readings by local poetry lovers of nature-inspired poems as we enjoy a leisurely stroll to the summit of Mount Grant Preserve where visiting Washington State Poet Laureate, Tod Marshall, will share some of his favorites. Sunday, April 2, 2017 1 pm – 2:30 pm

Jazz at Rumor Mill

San Juan Jazz Quintet will play Sunday night, April 2, 6:30—8:30pm at the Rumor Mill.  The band will highlight swing and Latin jazz standards for dancing and all-round good times.  Be there or be square……!!

Twilight Fun Run

Join SAFE San Juans for our 1st annual SAFE on the Rocks 5k in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month! This twilight fun run will feature glow sticks, glow paint, a post-race party with music, food, raffle lottery tickets, family-friendly activities, and much more! Even if you want to walk the route or just come for the post-race party starting at 8:30pm, SAFE on the Rocks will have something fun for everyone (suggested $10 event entry donation per family for those not walking/running)!

Litter-Free by the Sea

All Chamber members (plus your families/friends!) are encouraged to participate in the County-wide 2017 Great Islands Clean-Up, which will be held on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine. The Town of Friday Harbor does a terrific job regularly picking up litter from the sidewalks and gutters in the downtown area.

Chamber Presentation Folder

The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce is offering our members an opportunity to make a great first impression on prospective new residents, new Chamber members, dignitaries and others. One of our members, Purkey & Assoc. is producing a Chamber Presentation Folder for our Chamber. These folders will be in full color with a supply to be utilized for at least one full year.

Clay Therapy Workshops

Clay classes are offered for individuals wanting to learn hand building techniques with earthenware clay. Classes are 5 week sessions ,15 hours of class time, good for beginners or experienced clay enthusiast.  April 24- May 24. Monday and Tuesday class times available.  Classes have continuous demonstrations and are geared toward the individuals level and artistic goals.  San Juan Islands botanical and marine legacy is Belle Terre ceramics fundamental point of view for creative and applied techniques.  We believe there is a therapeutic and meditative component to working with clay and that is why we call our class CLAY THERAPY.
