July 4th Parade Fast Approaching

Chamber of Commerce

America…All That We Share, celebrates our island community and the common ideals that connect us. The 2017 parade provides a grand event honoring the amazing people and organizations that enrich our lives. Last year the town looked fabulous all decked out with patriotic red, white and blue bunting. To further encourage community spirit, Ace Hardware is generously offering a “Bunting Chamber Special”. The 6 foot wide X 3 foot tall swag bunting is only $19.99 plus tax.  This special offer is available for town merchants and parade participants to decorate their entry. By mid-June the holiday decorations will begin to appear.  Join in and show your spirit! Applications are available at the Chamber office or may be downloaded at www.sanjuanisland.org (http://www.sanjuanisland.org) . Thank you to those who have already turned in their applications allowing us to proceed with parade planning.  We are so lucky to have such a creative community sharing their enthusiasm and talents to help make the SJI Chamber of Commerce July 4th Parade a proud memory.  Traci Wilson, Parade Coordinator 360-298-7760, 206-595-5104, traciwilson74@gmail.com

4th of July Fireworks Fund Needs Your Help!

Becki Day

I know you all remember how great our fireworks were last year! Thanks to a generous matching grant from Kings Market and the lodging tax funds from the Town of Friday Harbor, the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce has once again put together the biggest and best fireworks display ever! We are looking to our members for donations to meet our goal. Please join our growing list of donors and help make this the best one yet!

The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce has commissioned local talent Nick Gislason and the Lopez Community Fireworks, to design, setup, and fire the 2017 Friday Harbor 4th of July Fireworks Display.

Lopez Community Fireworks is an all-Volunteer Team, with active members from San Juan Island, Lopez, and
Orcas. The group first banded together 30 years ago to pursue pyrotechnics as their collective art form, with night sky as the canvas. The fireworks team has developed unique fireworks effects over the years that have garnered numerous awards at the Pyrotechnics Guild International Fireworks Competition, with a pyrotechnic style that is uniquely traditional. This season marks the 31st anniversary of the Lopez Community Fireworks Organization. The Friday Harbor Fireworks Display will be presented in the Japanese Style, wherein twelve unique “Sets” will be displayed in sequence.  Artistically, this style of fireworks presentation is all about contrast in time, noise, light, and space, and the appreciation of individual fireworks effects and their characteristic nuances.

All donations are welcome! Please send to San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 98, Friday Harbor, WA 98250
