New Hours At Friday Harbor Chocolates

We are pleased to announce that as of July 1, Friday Harbor Chocolates will now be open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We are also honored to partner with island producers including San Juan Island Sea Salt Co. from San Juan Island, Rainshadow Confections Sweet & Savory Nuts, from San Juan Island, Kathryn Taylor Chocolates from Orcas Island, and Just Heavenly Fudge from Lopez Island.  We invite any other commercial confection maker or wine producer from the San Juan Islands to contact us to discuss having your product line in our shop.

Registration closing soon for June 30, 2017 Pod Nod

The Whale Museum

Friday Harbor, WA – Registration closes on June 28 for The Whale Museum’s June 30 Pod Nod. A minimum number of participants is required so don’t wait to register your pod nodder(s)! Pod Nods are overnight marine adventures! These popular “pajama party” sleepovers are geared for children ages 6 to 11 and will be held on the following Fridays: June 30, July 28, and August 25. Pod Nods are led by Museum Educators with assistance from other adult professionals.  Youth participants will learn to value whales and their environment through art projects, science labs, games, the traditional flashlight tour of the Exhibit Hall, and a bedtime movie.  We promise a high adult/child ratio and a whale of a good time!

 

Participants will engage in crafts, activities, story-telling and museum exploration as they learn about our Marine Mammal Neighbors living in the Salish Sea. Each Pod Nod will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with pick-up the next morning at 8:30 a.m.  A bedtime snack and breakfast are included.

 

The cost per Pod Nod is $44 for children/grandchildren of Whale Museum members.  The cost for non-members is $49 per Pod Nod.  A limited number of scholarships are available.  Pre-registration is required at least two days in advance of Pod Nod dates to ensure a great experience for the Pod Nodders as well as a high adult to child ratio. Jazz at the Labs is back this summer

Friday Harbor Laboratories will host the 17th annual Jazz at the Labs, with dinner and amazing music! This event will include dinner served from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in FHL’s historic dining hall. The San Juan Jazz Quintet (SJJQ) will have diners tapping their toes as they enjoy the fabulous food. Following dinner, SJJQ and Seattle’s Jazz Coalescence will perform jazz standards and originals, swing, bebop, and Latin jazz.

Clay Therapy Workshops

Clay classes are offered for individuals wanting to learn hand building techniques with earthenware clay. Classes are 5 week sessions ,15 hours of class time, good for beginners or experienced clay enthusiast.  July 10 – Aug 8. Monday and Tuesday class times available, Monday 3 PM to 5:30 PM and 6 PM to 8: 30  Tuesday 3 PM to 5:30 PM.

Music on the Lawn

Lavender Festival

Pelindaba Lavender Farm

See lavender- tours and exhibits, survey the entire process, from field to finished product. The fields are open for strolling, relaxing and breathtaking photo ops.
Smell lavender-the cutting field is open for visitors to harvest their own bouquets of certified organic lavender from the many varieties in bloom.
Hear lavender demonstrations-cover topics such as lavender cultivation, harvesting, essential oil distillation, history and uses, cooking with lavender and more.
Touch lavender-the craft tent is open all day long in the fields for adults and children to make beautiful wands, wreaths, crowns and more.
Taste lavender-our lavender ice cream, lavender lemonade and lavender iced tea and coffee are always big hits, not to mention our lavender cookies! Island style picnic lunches will be available all day long in the fields.

We'll be joined by over 30 local artists who will have their work on display and for sale in the fields. Local musicians will be serenading us throughout the day. Be sure to bring your sunscreen and camera! Parking and admission are free. 10 AM to 5 PM
