Community Foundation of San Juan Island

The Community Foundation was once again gratified by the amazing generosity of islanders last week at the 2017 San Juan County Fair when over $31,000 was donated to nine different projects featured in the matching program.  This amount was raised in just the four days of the Fair!

As of August 31, 2017, there is a county-wide burn ban being enacted. This means no outdoor burning of recreational campfires or outdoor burning of wood in fire bowls or patio fire places.

Summer Lecture Series Whale Museum

On September 7, Krista Trounce, the Enhancing Cetacean Habitat and Observation (ECHO) Project Manager, will present how the ECHO Program, a Vancouver Fraser Port Authority-led initiative, is working with national and international collaborators to develop mitigation measures that will lead to a reduction in potential threats to at-risk whales in the Salish Sea as a result of shipping activities.

SJI Farmers Market at Brickworks

The San Juan Island Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 10am to 1:00 pm at Brickworks, on 150 Nichols Street. Each week the Farmers Market offers a diverse selection of fresh, local food from San Juan, Waldron, Lopez, and Orcas Island. The Farmers Market also offers a mix of local, hand-crafted products such as jewelry, pottery, and artwork. Throughout the year, there are over 20 farms that vend at the year-round San Juan Island Farmers Market. Each Saturday, the market is a bubbling place to buy local groceries, eat freshly prepared food, listen to live music, shop for local crafts, and chat with local nonprofit organizations!

Friday Harbor School of Massage starts its second year next Tuesday September 5th, with room for more students.. The 625 hours, seven month program cost $9,000.
