New Exhibit

SJIMA

SJIMA News
A new exhibit is opening on September 17th at the San Juan Islands Museum of Art  located at Friday Harbor, WA.  The museum is proud to present Hydrographs and For All We Know, concurrently running exhibitions by two innovative artists and printmakers, Nicole Pietrantoni and Dianne Kornberg.  The exhibitions will open to the public on September 17, 2016 and close on Monday, November 28, 2016.

Nicole Pietrantoni will present Art as a Voice entitled 'Fractured Landscapes, Fraught Aesthetics'  @10 am at SJIMA. No tickets will be sold; however, SJIMA gratefully accepts donations.  All proceeds help support the museum.   A Gallery Talk and book signing will follow.

Both of these artists utilize printmaking to question what most take for granted, adding an artistic voice to forms otherwise expressed in purely scientific  terms.  Nicole Pietrantoni passionately explores the complex relationship between humans and nature through the medium of printmaking, creating works that are powerful and stunning.  Dianne Kornberg uses printmaking and other creative media to create photo-based, archival pigment prints through the scientific methods.  She juxtaposes poetry by her collaborator, Elizabeth Frost, alongside scientific language and conventions applied to specimen conservation and preservation.

Nicole Pietranton is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, where she teaches printmaking and book arts.  Her work has been featured in over 80 national and international exhibitions and collections around the world.  Dianne Kornberg has been exhibiting her artwork nationally and internationally for three decades.  She is a professor emerita at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, and resides on Orcas Island.

Message from Friday Harbor Chocolates

Friday Harbor Chocolates

We are so very appreciative of everyone who stopped by this past summer and supported our small business.  Business was great and steady and luckily just the perfect flow of folks to keep us perfectly busy but not overwhelmed. Now that we are heading into the shoulder months, leading towards the upcoming winter holidays, we would love to get the word out to our Island residents that we are still one of the newer businesses in town and are here to stay, operating year round. We have finally created a website which describes our product line and concierge services.  The website is www.fridayharborchocolates.com.  We would be so grateful if you would take a look and possibly share this with your friends, family and/or employees to help us spread the word.

Tom Small, Sculpture and Kathryn Trigg, Monotype Paintings

Waterworks Gallery

Tom Small’s sculptures are inspired directly from the land. For Tom specific locales in the Northwest provide the vision for the work. These locals include the islands, the beaches, the rivers, the mountains. This show will include recent drawings, carvings in stone and wood, and glass castings.
Kathryn Trigg creates alchemy using her monotypes to compose her paintings. A monotype is a unique work on paper created using a printing press. Using a colorfield approach to the art work, Kathryn combines countless layers of paint, inks and paper to the surface of wood panels. This approach creates a form of illusion within her work. As Kathryn stated” Everyone needs a little magic in their lives”.
