A Night at the Museum

The Whale Museum

Join us January 11, from 6-8 PM for a Reception at The Whale Museum to explore the Museum and enjoy excellent food, drinks, friends and the unveiling of our newest exhibits. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Market Chef. Wine by Northwest Totem Cellars and beer by San Juan Brewing Co. will be available at our cash bar. Music will be performed by Cellist Sasha Von Dassow. Special thanks to our event sponsor: Mike’s Café and Wine Bar.

The evening is $35.00 per person (price includes heavy hors d’oeuvres; wine and beer sold separately). Tickets can be purchased at The Whale Museum or online at https://whalemuseum.org/products/night. Quarterly Luncheon is January 8th!

Tonights movie: Incovenient Truth Sequel.
A decade after An Inconvenient Truth brought climate change into the heart of popular culture comes the follow-up that shows just how close we are to a real energy revolution. . Former Vice President Al Gore continues his tireless fight, traveling around the world training an army of climate champions and influencing international climate policy. Cameras follow him behind the scenes – in moments both private and public, funny and poignant -- as he pursues the inspirational idea that while the stakes have never been higher, the perils of climate change can be overcome with human ingenuity and passion.   


Movies will be shown every first and 3rd Tues at the Grange starting January 2, 2018 at 7 PM. Admission is by donation.  Film Society Members are free. Tonights movie: Inconvenient Truth Sequel.

 WaterWorks Gallery, a contemporary light-filled gallery space continues to evolve as it remains, dedicated to showing artists from the Islands, Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. Represented artists, painters, sculptors and jewelers reflect the ares' beauty through both conventional and unusual representations. New  featured work by Jaime Ellsworth, Michael Dickter, Elizabeth Bruno, Cathy Schoenberg, Catherine Eaton Skinner, Tom Small, Robin & John Gumaelius, Anna Skibska and fabulous jewelry by Micki Lippe, Jan Marie Tognela. Inititiative 1433 Seminar - Paid Sick Leave and Employee Rights

San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce will have Eva Coblentz with the Department of Labor and Industries here to explain to our members and the business community of San Juan County about Initiative 1433 - Paid Sick Leave - Employer Requirements & Employee Rights which has gone into effect as of January 1, 2018.
The seminar begins at 9am on January 8th at Brickworks. To attend please email chamber@sanjuanisland.org. It is a 45 minute presentation followed by a question and answer period.
On Nov. 8, 2016, voters in WA State approved Initiative Measure No. 1433 (I-1433); which increased the state minimum wage, requires employers to pay all tips and gratuities to employees and introduces a new paid sick leave law. Come find out what employers responsibilities as the new paid sick leave law is went into effect January 1, 2018. Please sign up at

Friday Harbor Chocolates

Friday Harbor Chocolates is so very grateful for all of you who came and browsed and/or made purchases in our shop this past year.  Your patronage and support is so very much appreciated.  We are taking a short hiatus in January, while many of you swear off chocolates and wine for your New Year’s resolution, and will re-open in the beginning of February to celebrate our official 1 year Anniversary of being in business in Friday Harbor.  We will be featuring the highest quality confections, Ports, wines and champagne just in time for Valentine’s Day and of course offering you our impeccable service to assure your satisfaction in doing business with us once again.  Wishing you all a very healthy and peace filled year ahead
