River sustained Dick Goin for the first half of his life. He and his family had been nourished by these salmon since migrating to the Olympic Peninsula during the Dust Bowl.

Skagit Valley College President’s Reception

Skagit Valley College will be hosting a President’s Reception event at the San Juan Brewing Company on Tuesday Feb. 27 from 4:30-6:00 PM. We will share some information about what the College has been up to recently, and enjoy complimentary food, beer, and entertainment! Kitchen Boot Camp

No planks, push-ups or power lifting required! Chef Tim’s offering three cooking classes this spring. The first is Skills, Soups & Salads on March 11th. You’ll leave with new skills, food in your belly, recipes to share, plus a gift certificate for dinner. Classes are 3 – 6; $75 each or take all three for $200!
Chef’s Tasting Menu
Coho Restaurant offers a four course Chef’s tasting menu nightly in addition to our a la carte menu. Chef Tim prepares a seasonal succession of delights to savor the flavors and freshness of the local fields, orchards, and the sea. The tasting menu is $55 and $45 for a vegetarian version. There’s an optional wine pairing.
First Seating
Coho Restaurant will continue its First Seating, formally known as the “Two for 70” between 5 and 5:45 each night. First Seating includes a soup and salad, entrée, dessert and bottle of wine for two guests for $70.
 

Notte Italiana

March 13th - Chef Tim has a particular passion for Italian cuisine - his pastas are light and delicate and his house made mozzarella and burrata ethereal. For this special night, we will transform Coho into an Italian Trattoria with authentic food and drink and transport you to Italy with the conviviality of food and winethis special dinner.

 

The wines are showing really well and Chef Tim has put together some outstanding pairings. Kristie Adams, the Fine Wine & Marketing Manager of Noble Wines will host this special evening. The 6 wines represent Italy’s renown winemaking regions - Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Sicily, Piedmont, Veneto, and  ending with Tuscany’s classic dessert wine Vin Santo. We already have the panforte mellowing for the occasion. There will be one seating at 6 p.m. Dinner is $55 and the optional wine pairing $35.

 

Global Cuisine Night

Join us for hump night for some Global Cuisine. We are continuing our tour in France with Lyon on March 4th. Chef Bill has planned a traditional 3 course dinner for $30. Enjoy a bottle of French wine for 20% off or our house Bordeaux blend  - "The Five Nobles" for $10. Our regular menu is available as well. We are open Wednesday – Saturday 5 – 9 p.m.

Announcing $50,000 Matching Grant to Honor Joyce Sobel

The Community Foundation is honored to announce an anonymous matching grant in the amount of $50,000 to go toward the San Juan Island Family Resource Center’s Building Expansion Project.  All donations will be matched up to this amount in memory of Joyce Sobel and her 43 years of dedication and service to the San Juan Island community.  The Building Expansion Project will add much needed space to the Family Resource Center’s facility and allow them to improve programming for our community’s most vulnerable.

Construction on Hwy 20

A large Connecting Washington project will cause delays on Highway 20, just east of Anacortes from early April into July. WSDOT contractor crews from Tapani, Inc. will build two new roundabouts in the area of SR 20 and the SR 20 Spur (the intersection in Skagit County where you turn south toward Oak Harbor). You can prepare for trips during construction by: Leaving yourself plenty of extra time to make your Anacortes ferry reservation (there are public parks, a library and/or coffee shops in Anacortes if you end up with extra time).

EDC to offer free Electrical Basics training

The San Juan County Economic Development Council (EDC) will offer free training in electrical basics this spring, funded by the Orcas Island Community Foundation, Orcas Kiwanis,  Islanders Bank and Heritage Bank. The course will be taught at Orcas Island High School by Vocational Instructor Brett McFarland and others.  The training will include core electrician skills, solar wiring installations, safety and more. The course will run after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 6 through April 12, 2018, from 3:45-5:45p.  There is no cost for training; pre-registration and a $10 filing fee is required.  The deadline to apply is March 1st, 2018.  Space is extremely limited.

Friday Harbor Film Festival at the BRICKWORKS on Nichols Street in Friday Harbor MARCH 3, 2018. Doors open at 5:00pm! We will be celebrating the Oscars by screening the Trailers of the Top Contenders.  Everyone is encouraged to select his or her winning choice, for great prizes!!
