On Saturday, July 28th  from 11 to 1 pm at the gallery the attending jewelers will walk thru the show and chat about their works and answer questions.

Island Rec Music on the Lawn

Here are the bands for Music on the Lawn this coming summer and blurbs about them.

August 1 – Duke and Mojo Nation – This local rock band knows its music and impresses all audiences. Pop rock-and-roll at its best. Steve Cutting and his crew are old hands at moving you from your seat to the dance floor/lawn. His new crew of bandmates have upped their game from an already impressive show.

Island Stage Left Presents the Tempest

Twenty years ago ISL (Island Stage Left) performed Shakespeare’s magical play about forgiveness as its opening production. With magic, spirits, love, treachery and forgiveness, this is Shakespeare’s last solo work and one that has delighted and inspired all audiences, no matter what their age or background.
It speaks to what is best and worst in us all, but forgiveness and love are at its core.
Prospero is no ordinary man, and this no ordinary island. He is a magician, able to control the very elements and bend nature to his will. When a sail appears on the horizon, he reaches out across the ocean to the ship that carries the men who wronged him. Creating a vast magical storm he wrecks the ship and washes his enemies up on the shore. When they wake they find themselves lost on a fantastical island where nothing is as it seems. San Juan Island at 1062 Wold Rd - Thursdays through Sundays July 19th - Aug 12th

2018 Pod Nods at The Whale Museum

Pod Nod overnight marine adventures return this summer to The Whale Museum! These popular “pajama party” sleepovers are geared for children ages 6 to 11 and will be held on the following Fridays: August 10, and August 24. Pod Nods are led by Museum Educators with assistance from other adult professionals.  Youth participants will learn to value whales and their environment through art projects, science labs, games, the traditional flashlight tour of the Exhibit Hall, and a bedtime movie.  We promise a high adult/child ratio and a whale of a good time!

2018 Wild San Juan Lecture Series

The Whale Museum is pleased to welcome Shona Aitken, Wolf Hollow’s Education Curator, back as part of a free, collaborative 2018 Spring and Summer Lecture Series at 7:00 pm at The Whale Museum on the following dates:
Thursday, August 23: A critter’s eye view of your house
Thursday, September 20: Rat poison and raptors
This exciting lecture series focuses on living in harmony with wildlife. Topics will explore local wildlife species and how human impacts which may harm these wildlife and their habitats can be reduced. These impacts can include everything from removing nests/nesting material when gardening to vehicle strikes. Through becoming more aware of the impacts of our actions, visitors and residents of San Juan Island can learn to be better stewards to the wildlife that share their home with us. The first lecture will focus on the different kinds of wildlife found here on the island and human/wildlife issues that might arise. This lecture series is free and open to the public. For more information, call (360) 378-4710 ext. 30 or email info@whalemuseum.org.  The Whale Museum is located in Friday Harbor at 62 First St. N.  Founded in 1976, The Whale Museum’s mission is to promote stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem through education and research.  The Whale Museum can be found on-line at www.whalemuseum.org
