A Survey Invitation News

Becki

Dear Chamber Members:
Tomorrow morning you should be receiving an email from us inviting you to participate in a survey about tourism in the San Juan Islands.

This survey is possibly one of the most important tasks that we work on in the short term.  The San Juan Island Chamber Board of Directors, myself and the staff strongly believe we need to put together a coordinated effort to ensure that our island businesses, and specifically chamber members, fill out one of these surveys which will be shaping the County's Tourism Master Plan, and future public policy on tourism and funding.

Some of you that are members of the Visitors Bureau, Lopez Chamber or Orcas Chamber might have already received the survey. If so you would not need to fill out the survey again.

If  you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us at chamber@sanjuanisland.org.

Chamber Featured Member of the Month

Month  Emily and Margie Aipopo
The Cheesecake Cafe and Bakery, located in the heart of the water front in Friday Harbor, is the Chamber’s Featured Member of the Month. Opening at 6:30 every day, they serve full breakfast and don't forget about the cheesecake! It is a very casual environment, where one can sit down next to a stranger and make a friend while enjoying a cup of their custom Salish Sunrise coffee blend. Also featured is the hand battered fish and chips at the Fish + Brew location. It is located directly between the Cheesecake Cafe and the ferry landing. According to Margie and Emily “it is such a joy to share this beautiful space with visitors and our locals”.

Meet the Authors

Have you written a book? Do you like to read works by local authors? There’s a new group in town you might want to get to know. The Authors of the San Juan Islands is a community of writers living in and around the Salish Sea. Their mission is to raise awareness of our local author community and to educate new writers in the pursuit of better craft and business practices. You’ll find representatives at the San Juan Island farmer’s market on the first Saturday of each month with an ever-changing display of books for sale. The group is also presenting a Meet the Author event on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Mullis Center from 4 to 7pm to give you a chance to meet and greet many of the island’s talented wordsmiths. To participate as an author, visit the website or contact Chamber of Commerce member Gail Kretchmer (g.elizabeth@gekretchmer.com). If you’re a reader, please stop by our booth at the farmer’s market and mark your calendar for the Mullis Center event.
