Founded by World War I Veterans in 1922, the Sealy American Legion has been a part of Sealy’s History for over 100 years. This organization’s primary purpose is to provide a place of fellowship for our local Veterans, many of whom have served in WWI, WWII, and every war since then.
We’re actually growing these days. We’re forming a Legion Rider’s Group, and looking to charter a Sons of the American Legion group as well, for descendants of service members who wish to give something back to the community.
Today, our Legion serves the community in many roles. Supporting the funerals of local vets with a rifle and flag team for military honors, maintaining and providing medical assistance devices to those in need for free, maintaining the Legion Hall to support community events, private parties, and providing meeting spaces for quite a few other groups. In addition to serving local vets by providing a place of contact to help with veterans services.
Even more, to remind our community on both Veteran’s and Memorial Days that our Country is still loved and our flag respected. We have a drop off point and will take care of retiring worn flags, in a partnership with our local Boy Scouts.
We award many scholarships and we send young men to Boy’s State in Austin Texas every July to learn about our State Government. Our members do this quietly. All of us signed up to serve the United States of America, some voluntary, some not so voluntarily, but we all believe in selfless service and supporting our community as best we can.
