About Us

GOSMALLBIZ.COM: WHAT'S YOUR QUESTION?

GoSmallBiz.com was origionally FTSBN, which was Fran Tarkenton Small Business Network, which was started in 1995. Fran started FTSBN to help small business owners get answers to any questions they had in the day to day operation of their business.

The cause of FTSBN becoming a company was Fran's search for the reason why 80% of the people starting a new business failed in the first 3 years. After Fran had retired from the National Football League, he opened and successfully ran 15 small businesses and sold all of them at a great profit and had never had to close a one of them down. Why could he do this and other people could not? So he started doing research and found that the difference in him and other business owners was that he knew a lot of CEO's, President's and COO's and that he could pick up the phone and call and ask them any type of question he had, so he always had answers at his fingertips. Fran also found that he had spent $3,000,000.00 on legal fees to keep him out of any legal trouble. He realized that the average business owner did not have access to an attorney or to a CEO for any business advice. So, he created FTSBN, got MBA's CPA's, Marketing and Sales specialists and other business specialists to work with him to provide answers to any question a small business owner might have. FSTBN grew that first year and was very successful, but Fran realized that something was missing, and that was the Legal help that small business owners needed. At that time Fran was a Director on Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc.Board of Directors and he realized that PPL did not offer a business plan at that time, so he and Harland Stonecypher,(CEO & Founder of PPL) decided that Fran would take FTSBN and put PPL with it and the end results was GoSmallBiz.com. That was in 1996 and now is one of the fastest growing plans at PPL.
