About Us

Welcome to the Southwest Valley Literacy Organization. This is your opportunity to learn a language that shall permit you to advance in your life and in your career. Our tutors are volunteers and are not paid for their time and are dedicating their services for you. Our tutors believe in education and in the advancement of those persons limited by their inability to speak English or those that are illiterate. We ask upon enrolling in the program that you faithfully attend your classes and that you give of yourself as the tutors are giving to you. Teaching English as a Second Language to adult non-English speakers and Basic English to adult English speakers for more than 25 years in the southwest areas of the valley. This program provides free training and free materials to volunteer tutors. The volunteer tutors are provided curriculum that can take the student from not one word of English to 5th - 6th grade level. Other classes provided to students at various times are Citizenship and Conversation classes.
