Executive Director Message

Clark H. Caras

Things like one of the most successful farmers markets in the state, awarding 24 scholarships to graduating seniors from five different high schools, noon networking luncheons seeing between 40 to 70 attendees at times, a successful Easter Egg Hunt with 10,000 smiling children (parents too), a Play Unplugged program for which 199,000 people voted for at one time or another, reaching out to local animal shelters to help in spay and neutering adopted animals, a trick-or-treat program for two communities and 4,000 children, and an upcoming Winter Lights Parade filled with enough egg nog for all.
The ball seemed to begin rolling big time when the new Walmart last March became the first Presidential member in the history of the Chamber. And things have continued to move forward with the renewal of both Salem and Spanish Fork’s Community Partnerships. And if you will just take a minute and look at the bottom of the website’s front page you will notice 30 Platinum members and if you check out the graph in Chamber Nation you will see the Spanish Fork Salem Area Chamber of Commerce has 228 members; that with both Platinum and members is the most in the history of the Chamber, thus the ripple effect and mojo.
A mojo and ripple that has seen members such as Maple Creek Home Health & Hospice become the Chamber’s first Diamond Member, and ripples seeing Western States Insurance and The Dugout move into the Platinum category, and enough ribbon cuttings since the last newsletter to have in this newsletter a story and picture literally where all 10 businesses are new to the Chamber!
This is a great vibe to have and one each and every one in the Chamber is contributing to, whether it be a smile given to a stranger, attendance at a ribbon cutting or business of the month event, true networking at noon or whenever with someone who is or isn’t a member, jumping in and joining  the fray with a Chamber event in which volunteers are needed, and telling someone just how great it is to be a part of a group of men and women who have the same goal… which is, to create and maintain a sustainability in the business community where a living wage can be made and shared with employees and there is enough to give back and share with the community.
My thanks to all who are making the water ripple and the mojo be felt near and far.
