Downtown Centennial Celebration
The Downtown Centennial Celebration is a 3-day event just ahead of the 100th anniversary of Arizona achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. Festivities planned include free street concerts on Scott and 5th Avenues, free concerts at the Fox Theatre, street musicians, food vendors, rides and historical re-enactments.

“Noche de Ciencias” - Family Science Nights
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) – Southern Arizona Professional Chapter will celebrate its “Noche de Ciencias” – Family Science Nights – on February 15, 2012. “Noche de Ciencias” is a national initiative to have a week of impact during Hispanic Heritage Month, and the month of February, to engage the Hispanic community in relaxed environments to have fun with science and engineering and promote college awareness in a bilingual setting. The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, student and professional chapters, across the United States and Puerto Rico engage their local communities with activities for K-12 students and provide informative bilingual workshops for their parents. 2nd Saturday's Science in the City
Science in the City, presented by 2nd Saturdays, will transform Downtown into one big science center from 2 to 6 p.m. Downtown merchants will host discussions and demonstrations about science/technology related to the goods and services they provide, and the Zero Gravity and Mathematics Road Show will be in the Interactive Park on Congress. Tucson schools and Pima JTED will also showcase their projects at venues including the Tucson Children's Museum, Science Downtown and Tucson main library.

MISSION The Hispanic Leadership Institute-Tucson promotes the individual development of Hispanics for increased participation in leadership roles and serves as a principal education and networking resource for expertise and advocacy on leadership issues affecting Latino communities. PROGRAM Educating ourselves as leaders is one of the best ways we can learn to truly connect to the community. The Hispanic Leadership Institute-Tucson was established and designed to educate and assist individuals in developing and expanding their leadership skills to take an active role in the community. HLI-Tucson was founded in 2010 as a partnership between Valle del Sol, Cox Communications and the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. CURRICULUM The Hispanic Leadership Institute-Tucson is a 10-week program of weekly classes conducted in the evening and a one day leadership retreat to focus on cultural identity, team-building and service to community.
