State of the City Luncheon - 
January 26, 2015

The Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau core areas of focus include:
  • Creating a strong local economy
  • Promoting Walnut Creek
  • Providing networking & business contacts
  • Representing the voice of business to government
  • Leading political action
2014 was another year of growth for the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau thanks to the efforts of a myriad of volunteers and a strong staff.  
A big project for the Chamber has been partnering with the City of Walnut Creek on the Shadelands Business Improvement District. My company, Del Monte Foods, has been located in the Shadelands Business Park since 1969 and I can tell you this is the most exciting initiative for the Shadelands any of us can remember. We have already secured a shuttle service between the park and BART and we just completed a contract to make it a FREE service. This will benefit all the Shadelands businesses, our customers and employees as well as our residential neighbors.
You can watch for much more to come as we…
  • Create new marketing materials
  • Build a special sense of ‘place’
  • Work on added security, including a possible police substation improved signage and way finding and much more as we’re just getting going!
Even though a large number of people have been working on this project, I’d like to thank Angela De La Housaye for her vision and leadership. It was over four years ago as the past Chair of the Chamber of Commerce that Angela began the work to re-energize the Shadelands Business Park and draw attention to serious challenges that exist there.  I cannot overstate the importance of this project as we work to improve our local economy with quality jobs and exciting new opportunities.

State of the City

WCCCVB Board Director Angela De La Housaye (center), De La Housaye & Associates, emceed the annual State of the City luncheon that took place on January 26 at the Walnut Creek Marriott Hotel. WCCCVB Chairman of the Board Scott Butler (Left), Del Monte Foods, and Mayor Bob Simmons (right) addressed the group of nearly 700 community, business, and civic leaders on the many accomplishments achieved this year by working together as organizations and as a collective community. The State of the City Luncheon is presented each year by the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau in partnership with the City of Walnut Creek. This year’s event was generously supported by East Bay Municipal Utility District, Republic Services, Pacific Gas & Electric and Walnut Creek Marriott Hotel.

 "Abraham Lincoln once said that there are some things we can accomplish better together than we can alone.  I believe this is such a time.  We have already demonstrated the ability to work together and to accomplish things we couldn’t do alone.  One only needs to look at what we have done together at the Shadelands Business Park, the All Abilities Playground, the Downtown Enhancement Initiative and now the Larkey Park pool to see examples where we accomplished something by working together that couldn’t be done by any of us acting alone.  I hope that we can walk that path together.  Thank you for all that you do for Walnut Creek."
