Achieving a Vision

More than 10 years ago, City leaders began working with the community on a vision for the future of Walnut Creek. More than 1,000 people participated in the process through 53 public meetings, stakeholder gatherings, and written comments. The result - General Plan 2025 - was adopted in 2006. What is happening today in downtown Walnut Creek is the fruition of that plan to manage growth while protecting those community qualities residents hold dear. Concentrating that growth in the downtown protects neighborhoods and open space, takes advantage of nearby public transit, and promotes a vibrant downtown and healthy economy.

The Seven Hills School announces
Kathleen McNamara as Head of School

Kathleen McNamara will begin her tenure as Head of School at The Seven Hills School in Walnut Creek, effective July 1, 2015.  The Seven Hills School, an independent school serving approximately 400 preschool through 8th grade students, was founded in 1962, and sits at the edge of Heather Farm Park.  “Kathleen is the perfect leader for Seven Hills,” Sameer Hilal, chair of the school’s Board of Trustees said, “with broad and deep experience in independent school teaching and leadership. She embraces the distinctive mission of Seven Hills, respects the school visionaries on whose shoulders we now stand, and will lead with an innovative spirit toward the future."  Mr. Hilal expressed his appreciation to Bill Miller, Headmaster at Seven Hills for the past 23 years, who is retiring on June 30th. “We are thankful to Bill for his exemplary service to Seven Hills,” Mr. Hilal said. “When he arrived on our campus in 1992, he created a transformative vision of a school that would change the face of education in San Francisco’s East Bay communities. He succeeded wildly and has our deepest gratitude.”
