August 7th- 5K Move against the route!

Stand Up, Speak Up, and be Heard!

Please join us for an event to bring awareness to the community about the Nexus natural gas compressor station proposed to be located in Waterville Township with construction to begin after Feb 2017.

At 26,000 horsepower this Nexus compressor station would be one of the largest in the state. Emissions could include benzene, formaldehyde, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, particulates – all especially hard for children and the elderly to tolerate.
Compressor stations represent a list of health, safety and economic concerns.
  • Risk of explosion or accidents
  • Noise and emissions from operations and blow-downs (forceful venting of the pipeline)
  • Emissions can include methane, benzene, formaldehyde, other hydrocarbons, particulate matter, and other volatile organic compounds – VOC’s.  Reported effects from prolonged exposure are nosebleeds, asthma and other respiratory problems, headaches, fatigue.
  • Low Frequency Vibration – linked to increased stress, higher blood pressure, sleep disturbances.
  • Homeowners could see property values go down and marketability would be affected.
Both Whitehouse and Waterville would be within a three mile radius of the proposed Nexus compressor station – more than 11,000 residents would be affected.  The Blast Zone is a one mile radius.  And, in the event of an accident, rupture or explosion the evacuation zone could be up to 2-3 miles.

Typically a compressor station is not put so close to towns or populated areas. There is a better, smarter, safer way!  We have been pushing for a re-route to move the compressor station to a less populated area.

We are running out of time to get our voices heard to oppose this location of the compressor station.  So grab your friends, family and neighbors and join us on August 7th to learn about the compressor station and what you can do to help.  This is an all-day event from 12-5pm, with free food and entertainment throughout the day.  We are also having a 5k starting at 1:00pm which you can run, walk or bike ride.  You will be able to see the location of the compressor station and where the pipeline will be coming through our area.
