Main Street in Edwardsville, Illinois. Visitors can stroll through the galleries of this 1836 building hearing echoes of the past as they listen to the sound of live jazz performed by Wilbert Glasper and Company. Wine and light refreshments will be served.\Details:\nThe event is a fundraiser to help cover operating expenses for the Madison County History Museum and Archival Library. A suggested donation of $25 can be paid by check, cash, or credit card at the door. The public are invited to attend.\n\nJazz musician Wilbert Glasper is known throughout the St. Louis area for his talents on the saxophone. In 2018, the Musicians’ Association of St. Louis recognized him with the George Smith Diversity Award for 49 years of loyalty, dedication and fellowship. Glasper believes in the power of music to bring people together, and, when he’s playing, everyone sways to the sound of the soft jazz that is his hallmark. Glasper is also a valued member of the MCHS Board of Directors.\n\nThe highlight of the evening is the ambiance brought by the combination of the architecture of the Weir House, the sounds of jazz, and conversations among friends, supporters, and fellow history aficionados.\n\nThe Madison County History Museum building was originally the home of Dr. John Weir who built his house in 1836. The house remained in the Weir family until purchased by MCHS in 1963. Because of the Weir family’s long connection to the building, the museum is sometimes referred to as the “Weir House.”\n\nMCHS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has been preserving the stories, photographs, and artifacts of Madison County since 1921. The Society owns and operates the museum as well as the Madison County Archival Library. Events like this one make it possible for MCHS to pay salaries and keep the lights on. The public’s assistance is greatly needed and appreciated.
