SUMMARY:Opera Southwest Presents: The New Mexico Symphonic Chorus Brahms – Requiem en Español

DESCRIPTION:Opera Southwest Presents: The New Mexico Symphonic Chorus Brahms – Requiem en Español\n\n03/15/26 02:00 PM MST\n - 03/15/26 04:00 PM MST\Description:\nBrahms did not set a Latin mass.\n\nHe called his great work Ein deutsches Requiem—A German Requiem—but wrote to a colleague that he would have preferred to call it “A Human Requiem.”\n\nHis intention was clear: this is music for the living, not the dead. Not bound to any single dogma, Brahms bypassed conventional liturgy to weave together scripture that speaks to sorrow, love, and release. Just three years after its premiere, the work was performed in English with the composer’s support.\n\nThe response to last season’s Spanish-language presentation of The Messiah affirmed how powerfully this music speaks across language. In that spirit of openness and consolation, we present the Requiem in Spanish.\n \n\n\nBrahms no compuso una misa en latín.\n\nLlamó a su obra Ein deutsches Requiem —Un Réquiem alemán— pero escribió a un colega que habría preferido titularla "Un Réquiem humano." Con ese mismo espíritu de apertura y consuelo, presentamos ahora el Réquiem en español.\n\Details:\nAt the National Hispanic Cultural Center Journal Theater\nSunday, March 15, 2026. 2:00 PM\n\nSoloists\nBrian James Myer (Before Night Falls, Llantos 1492)\nLaura León (Before Night Falls, Zorro, Frida)\n\nConductor\nEnrico Fagone (OSW and NMSC debut)\n\nFor more information on the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus and Opera Southwest, please click HERE.\n\n$22, $37, $52, $69 & $89 w/ discounts for anyone 30 years old and younger and Opera for All with a WIC or EBT card.
He called his great work Ein deutsches Requiem—A German Requiem—but wrote to a colleague that he would have preferred to call it “A Human Requiem.”
