Its visual storytelling mixes tradition and the present, in costuming, movement, and music, all enhanced by the company's connective spirit.\n\nThe company excels in stage performance as well as educational programs for students of all ages.\n\nArtistic Director Steven Valencia is a shining star in the world of Ballet Folklórico in the United States. A 4th generation Mexican-American, he was honored in 2011 with the Maestro Award from the Latino Arts Network of California and the California Arts Council, recognizing him as a Master of Cultural Practice in the Arts and a Leader in the Latino Community. More than a dozen years ago, Valencia fulfilled his life-long dream: to create a professional dance company dedicated to “calidad“ – quality, creative dance, community, and cultural affirmation. Calidanza is that Company. An ensemble of highly skilled and dedicated dancers working with creative musicians and costume designers, Calidanza bring the vibrant joy of Mexican dance, music, and culture to audiences of all generations.
