Event Description
October brings two new artists to The Theater Art Gallery in Yuba City. JOANNA KIDD will showcase her extraordinary original prints, and MAGGIE GREEN will display beautiful wood carved pieces. Don’t miss our hosted Artist Reception on Thursday, October 4, from 5 - 7 pm. Enjoy complimentary refreshments as you meet the artists and view the exhibit. Admission to the gallery is always free, with a new art exhibit on display each month. Located under the striped awning at 756 Plumas Street in downtown Yuba City next to the Sutter Theater, art gallery hours are Wed - Sat from 12 - 5 pm. The October show continues to the end of the month.

JOANNA KIDD is a printmaker, sculptor, and video installation artist. After graduating in Philosophy and Cognitive Science from Dartmouth College, she studied printmaking and sculpture at San Francisco State University before moving to Florence, Italy. There she earned a BFA in Sculpture and an MFA in Visual Art and Multimedia Techniques from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. She has been an Artist in Residence at Everglades National Park, the Arts Benicia installation residency program, and Gruenwald Press. Her work is included in the Achenbach Collection at the San Francisco Fine Arts Museum. She currently teaches at Yuba College, Woodland Community College, and the UC Davis Craft Center. In our gallery she will exhibit multicolor screen prints, inspired by her childhood memories of pressed flowers. Her print collection is introspective, using delicate colors, and strives to provide a visible expression of an emotional state or response. As you view her prints, what appears to be one thing, upon closer inspection, is really something else. Joanna relishes learning and trying new techniques in art, which evoke new possibilities and ideas. Come to her very interesting and stimulating art show!

Although she has been at it for just a little more than a year, MAGGIE GREEN has made beautiful bowls, vases, and wooden spoons from a variety of different woods. Serving spoons made from basswood, which lends itself to hand carving, are intricately carved and functional. All of her work is food-safe and hand washable. Using a scroll saw and a band saw, Maggie is able to use most of the wood piece she hollows into bowls and vases. Laminating various wood layers together creates interest in her pieces. She uses nontoxic finishes, such as walnut or danish oil, to coat and polish her work. Maggie began showing her woodwork at the Honey Festival in Woodland, and we are proud to have her unique creations in our October art show and sale.

The Theater Art Gallery is open every week, Wednesday through Saturday, from noon to 5:00 p.m. Proceeds from The Theater Art Gallery benefit the Sutter Performing Arts Association’s effort to renovate the Sutter Theater, turning it into a viable community center.  For more information, please visit our website at:  www.suttertheater.org, call 740-0105, or follow The Theater Art Gallery on Facebook.
