Event Description
Beginning December 6, the ceramic artistry of CHRIS THOMPSON will be featured at The Theater Art Gallery in downtown Yuba City. Also on exhibit for this holiday show are works by gallery resident artists Rosalynd Bliss, D.Ellen Day, Luisa Leger, Paul Spoto, and Janet Todd.  Art makes wonderful, unique holiday gifts, so come to the gallery’s “Holiday Cheer” Reception from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, Dec. 6, and see what excites your fancy. Admission is always free, and enjoy complimentary refreshments while you browse. We are located under the striped awning adjacent to the Sutter Theater at 756 Plumas Street in Yuba City. The art show and sale continues through the month until December 23. Thereafter, The Theater Art Gallery will be closed through January, reopening with a new exhibit on February 1, 2019.

Ceramic artist CHRIS THOMPSON received his B.A. and M.A. in Fine Arts from Sacramento State University and currently teaches art classes there. After serving in the U.S. Air Force for ten years, he is now a veteran and devotes his time to making art and teaching others. Twelve years ago he opened his own art studio in Sacramento, and now he has two studios in Sacramento:  Max Porcelain and E Street Gallery and Studios. In 2013 he collaborated with Yuba Sutter Arts in the Thousand Bowls Feed the Hungry public art project, and in 2016 he was a part of the Veterans Mural Art Park. At present, he is the lead artist for Ceramics for Veterans workshops in Yuba-Sutter and has his work in the November show with Glenn Husted at Yuba Sutter Arts. Chris describes his work as “functional art with a purpose.” His pieces are vibrant and colorful, and, since he makes his own glazes, he is able to expand his palette of colors. He believes the community comes together through art and that it is the unifying force in our society’s social fabric. Come and view his dynamic bowls and vases which are expressions of interactions between artist and observer. A marvelous show awaits you!

Our Holiday Cheer art show and sale continues until December 23, just in time to choose  something unique for your yuletide shopping! The Theater Art Gallery is open every week, Thursday through Saturday, from noon to 5:00 pm, and Wednesday by appointment only. Call 908-5704 or 329-1733. Proceeds from The Theater Art Gallery benefit the Sutter Performing Arts Association’s effort to renovate the Sutter Theater, turning it into a viable community center.  For more information, please visit our website at:  www.suttertheater.org, call 740-0105, or follow The Theater Art Gallery on Facebook.
