Monroeville’s annual Outdoor Farmer’s Market will host its seasonal Grand Opening Thursday, April 4th on the downtown square from 8am-1pm.   The market will celebrate the Monroe County Public Schools Wellness Program Fun Run/Farmers Market/ Farm2School Lunch partnership with the State of Alabama Farmer’s Market Authority April 26th, 9:30 am.  at the Monroe County High School track. It’s a great opportunity for students to understand the importance of sustainable gardens for healthy living.
Each Thursday the Outdoor Farmer’s Market will provide fresh, nutritional, unprepared, locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and herbs to increase domestic consumption of agricultural commodities locally in the state of Alabama. We all stand to benefit from a generation of young children who start out in life with good nutrition and a healthier senior population. Our Farmers Market offers the region’s best honey, eggs, baked goods, vinegars, juices, and jams. Last year the approved seafood provided variety to the market. This year the Market Manager is excited to announce grass fed organic beef from an approved farm.
Vendors must obtain a grower’s permit from the Monroe County Extension Office location                            334 Agriculture Drive by appointment with Mrs. Ethel Stanley 251-575-3477.
Participants can receive certification to accept senior food assistance vouchers at HYPERLINK “http://www.fma.alabama.gov. Vendors are should have their certificate with them when they apply for a vendor certificate at the Extension. The City of Monroeville vendors license Fee is $25.00. For compliance all participants (Farmers and Bakers) must file with the City of Monroeville City Hall Office located at 125 East Claiborne Street between the hours of 8am-4pm (M-F). They accept cash, check, or credit card.
Home style bakers must also obtain a certificate at the Extension. “All vendors must comply with the Alabama Cottage Food Law and courses are available at HYPERLINK “http:// www.aces.edu.com” .
The City of Monroeville and it’s partnerships will host  Monroeville Market Days the first Saturday of every month .  Arts and craft vendors, local businesses can participate along with our State of Alabama Certified Farmer’s Market 8am-2pm located on the historic square.  Our first Saturday date will be May 5th. Fees are $25. Businesses with a Federal ID must pay a business license fee through City Hall. All participant applications must be approved. Participants are responsible for their own set up including  10x10 tent, 6-8 ft. table and chairs with signage. Fee must be paid by check, cash or credit card to City of Monroeville. Application forms are available at City Hall. We are looking forward to its success. This is an opportunity to revitalize our downtown square while generating business for local restaurants and merchants.
