Event Description
Minimize the worry and ensure a confident start to the school year for local children by donating a new backpack and supplies.during the Lorton Community Action Center's Back2School 2019. Back to School is an exciting time in the life of a child and their parents! However for many low-income families in Southeast Fairfax County it can be extremely stressful as families worry about how they will afford the necessary school supplies. LCAC anticipates serving more than 500 children and teens through our Back2School program thanks to this wonderful community! YOU (and your friends, colleagues, neighbors, book club, faith-based group – you get the idea!) can help make the program a success.

Adopt a child/teen (or several): Visit our Sign up Genius page. 
Supply lists: Click on the grade to download and view the PDF.

    • Print out the Supply List for each grade you are filling and check the appropriate gender on the left side of each list.
    • Purchase a gender/grade appropriate backpack and appropriate supplies.
    • Check each item on the list as it is placed in a recyclable grocery bag.
    • Place the supply list inside the bag.
    • Drop off backpack and bag of supplies.

Drop off of supplies and backpacks: 

School supplies may be dropped off from Thursday, Aug. 8  through Friday, Aug. 16, at INOVA Healthplex Lorton, 9321 Sanger Street, Lorton, VA 22079. INOVA Healthplex Lorton is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Enter the building through the Emergency Room door. INOVA staff will direct you.

NOTE:  If you are adopting five or  more children and are planning to drop off your donations at INOVA Healthplex Lorton – please call 703 339-5161 extension 140 prior to drop off and let us know when the drop off will take place so that we may arrange for a pickup.

If you drop off donations at INOVA Healthplex Lorton and wish to receive a donation receipt, please email Linda@LortonAction.org with the number of backpacks you have dropped off along with their value.  Thank you!
