city budget, I feel it is very important for my constituents to understand how the budget is put
together and equally important for me to hear about their priorities for our community.” said
Budget discussions are currently underway in the City of Decorah. On December 30th, the
council took time to strategically think about upcoming infrastructure improvements and large
capital expenditures that may be needed in the next several years. By laying out this work early,
the council hopes to be able to prioritize and plan for these expenditures in the long term while
capitalizing on state and national funding when available for projects. In addition, the
categorizing and sharing of the city “wish” list will allow the council to make sure that they are
both being as efficient with resources as possible and looking out for new opportunities as they
arise. The council budget work session is scheduled for January 21st at 4:00.
In addition to the City Budget, the City has been engaged in the process of approving the
updated Sustainability Plan. Over the course of 2019, the Sustainability Committee utilized a
robust public input process to develop the vision statements and related actions in the 2020
Decorah Sustainability Plan. A draft of the plan is available on the City of Decorah website for

“I’m looking forward to re-connecting with people in Ward 2. Sunday is an opportunity to engage
in open dialog about our community, share ideas and for folks to learn more about city
government, finance and infrastructure. I welcome anyone to the meeting and welcome any and
all questions that folks may have” said Neal.
