The Porter House Museum will be hosting a featuring violinist/composer and Decorah native Philip Wharton and pianist and former Luther faculty member John Krebs.
The performance, held in the museums recently-revitalized historic music parlor, will include Grieg’s Sonata in G Major, Beethoven’s Sonata in G Major, and Games, an original piece composed by Wharton.
Tickets for the performance will be available at $14 on a first-come, first-served basis at the Porter House. Seating is limited. Members of the Porter House Museum may reserve tickets in advance as a benefit of museum membership. Respond to this email for more information.
A native of Iowa, John Krebs holds degrees in piano performance from Northwestern University, the University of Illinois, and the University of Maryland. After teaching at Central Missouri State University, Prince George’s Community College, and Luther College, he has been at Hendrix College in Arkansas since 1992. An avid collaborative pianist, Krebs has performed in Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Germany, Slovenia, Scotland, and Thailand.
Of Philip Wharton’s performing, The New York Times proclaimed, “a rousing performance!” and The Waterloo Courier wrote, “a golden tone with breathtaking execution.” His compositions, heralded from coast to coast, are described by the New York Concert Review as, “…decidedly contemporary…both engaging and accessible.” In past seasons, the Santa Fe Opera remounted Wharton’s Two Saintes Caught in the Same Act, the Grammy-nominated Borealis Wind Quintet performed his Quintet on their concert tours.
