Tour a Real Gold Mine from the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum
Tours of the Newmont Cripple Creek & Victor gold mine will be offered again this summer from the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum. Online reservations for the tours are open for 2020. Operating on daily basis except Thursdays, the tours offer a look at the large-scale surface mining operations between Victor and Cripple Creek. All of the tour proceeds are donated to the museum for its building improvements and operations.
Tours will provide the chance to see giant haul trucks, shovels and drill rigs in action and learn about the reclamation and modern refining methods. Tour guides share historical information on underground mining as well during the two-hour tour. This year’s tour includes a stop and overlook from the original American Eagles Mine site high above the district.
Check VictorMuseum.com for tour times and dates. The cost is $11 per person plus a small online booking fee - an affordable way for the entire family to see a real working gold mine. Only children 5 years of age and older are allowed on the tours. Please be sure to reserve your preferred tour dates (June is the slowest and the best time to make a reservation) as they are very popular and fill up quickly.

Reservations may be made online at VictorMuseum.com or by leaving a message at 719-689-4211 or calling the museum on weekends at 719-689-5509. The maximum on each tour is 13.
In addition to the mine tours, you can step back in time and pan for gold at the museum. Panning is included in the museum’s admission price ($7 per person) and is a great way to spend an hour in cool, sunny Victor this summer.
