Community Recovery Fund Launched by Greater WBL Community Foundation
The Greater White Bear Lake Community Foundation is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic locally by establishing a new Community Recovery Fund for the purpose of addressing local needs in the areas of food, shelter, and mental health through grants made to local nonprofit organizations that provide those services.
As the seriousness of the pandemic was realized, the Foundation reached out to area non-profits to assess their needs and let them know the Foundation will take action to help.
Our White Bear Lake area non-profit community responded quickly and clearly with confirmation that the demand for their services has already increased dramatically and is expected to double or even triple over the coming months. One local nonprofit leader told the Foundation,
“We are experiencing higher demand in requests for shelter and rental assistance. We normally spend $3000 monthly on rental assistance; I could see that need tripling.”
At the same time, donations to non-profits have decreased, as regular fundraising events have been cancelled and community members may have been furloughed or laid off as businesses of all sizes have been deeply affected by the pandemic.
The Foundation has set a goal of raising $100,000, which includes its initial funding of $10,000. All donations will become grants made locally to nonprofits serving people in our White Bear Lake area.
Contributions to the Community Recovery Fund may be made online at greaterwblfoundation.org or by mail at PO Box 10626, White Bear Lake, MN 55110. Questions may be directed to info@greaterwblfoundation.org
