Event Name:Women's Suffrage: The Fight for the Right to Vote
Event Type(s):Community Event
EIU Event

Women's suffrage in the United States of America, the legal right of women to vote, was a campaign waged formally for 72 years during the mid-to-late 19th and early 20th centuries. This crusade was undertaken by a determined group of citizens on the streets, in the social halls and every other environment frequented by U.S. society. The struggle was won during its final engagements in the Halls of the U.S. Congress and the seats of legislative power within the individual state governments through the passing/ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in the post-World War I-era. With the adoption of the 19th Amendment, the social fabric of the nation was again shifted towards a more egalitarian union. WS100 honors the woman’s suffrage movement and celebrates the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment which gave American women the right to vote.
