Oceans of Possibilities is the 2022 Summer Reading Program hosted in June by the Monroe County Public Library. This year's program, which has water as the primary theme, is open to children ages 4-14 years. The program is a week long day-camp style learning initiative held June 6-10, 2022 from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM daily at The Library in conjunction with other similar summer reading programs across the U. S. The goal of the program is to introduce local elementary children to a variety of books, speakers, crafts, and hands-on learning activities they would not have access to anywhere else this summer in Monroe County. Leaders of the program hope to spark creativity and inquisitiveness among the participants. Children will be given the opportunity to learn from experts like a local meteorologist, a US Coast Guard Veteran, a local farming family, and members of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, to name a few. Other special guests will include a pirate and a mermaid. Children will be exposed to information on weather, oceans, water safety, animals that live in water, careers that are associated with water, and more.
Space is limited to the first 45 children who register and are accepted. Participants must have an active Monroe County Public Library Card and have their user account in good standing. There is no charge to participate. All children ages 4-14 who reside in Monroe County, Alabama full-time or part-time during summer months are welcome. Registration forms are available at The Library during normal operating hours (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9-5, Thursday 9-7 and Saturday 9-noon) and must be completed by a parent or legal guardian, or may be downloaded from the website www.moncolib.org under the "Join Us" tab. https://moncolib.org/join-us
