Learn about the process of turning sap into syrup. From the management of the woods and getting lines and equipment prepped to the tapping of trees and collecting maple sap. There's much to be done before the maple sap flows and can get boiled into pure maple syrup - the part of the process we look forward to sharing with you every sugaring season - but without the prep, we wouldn't have any sweetness to share. Follow along with NYS Maple and our sugar makers as they prepare for the season ahead and Maple Weekend 2023!

BELLEAYRE MOUNTAIN SKI AND YEAR-ROUND RECREATION CENTER
Belleayre is a 4-season resort located in the heart of the Catskill Mountains and home to the Catskill Thunder Gondola! Visit belleayre.com for more information.

Belleayre Mountain is located along the Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway off of State Route 28 in Highmount, NY, just hours from New York City. It was declared “Forever Wild” by the New York State Forest Preserve in 1885. Early on, skiers would side-step or hike their way more than 3,000 feet to be the first to make tracks down un-named and woody trails.

Belleayre now stands as a model in the ski industry. Its continued improvements include the only Catskills Cat-access skiing and snowboarding, the Area 51 terrain park, two progression parks, mogul trails ranging from intermediate to expert bumps and extensive glade skiing. Skier and snowboarder visits have grown from 70,000 in 1995 to more than 175,000 skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. With 55 trails, parks and glades, 8 lifts, including our new High Speed Quad, Belleayre Mountain has certainly evolved from humble, yet promising beginnings into an efficient and growing organization - perfection in progress.

CRISP 2023 REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS to fund priority invasive species projects in the Catskills region! We will offer funding for those projects that best meet the following CRISP priorities that were identified in the CRISP Strategic Planning that we conducted earlier this year:
  1. Early Detection/Rapid Response for Tier 1 or Tier 2 Species
  2. Raise public awareness of Tier 1 and/or Tier 2 Species
  3. Improve the scientific understanding of the extent, ecological impact and effective controls of invasive species in the CRISP region.
Selected projects will be funded up to $10,000 and must be completed in 2022. The deadline for applications is February 3rd. Additional information is available here: https://www.catskillinvasives.com/funding

We gratefully acknowledge that this funding is provided through the Environmental Protection Fund as administered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). This funding leverages the work that CRISP Partners are doing and incentivizes local organizations to help execute CRISP goals to manage invasive species in our region. The RFP is not a grant program and all project proposals are subject to NYSDEC Invasive Species Coordinate Section for approval prior to being awarded a final sub-contract.
