Colonel Terri R. Zimmermann currently serves as the Reserve Chief Defense Counsel of the Marine Corps, responsible for advising the active duty CDC and training and mentoring all active duty and Reserve defense counsel in the Marine Corps. She joined the Marine Corps soon after graduating with a B.A. with Honors in Government from the University of Texas in 1989. She was commissioned a Second Lieutenant upon graduation from Officer Candidate School in 1990. After receiving her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1992, she began her initial active duty tour by completing The Basic School, Naval Justice School, and then serving in various legal positions, including Trial Counsel, Chief of Review, and Chief of Civil Law at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California. In 1996 she transitioned to the Reserve and has served continuously since then, striving to become a military justice expert. Some of her favorite billets include:

• Military Appellate Judge, Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals (2010-2013)
• Reserve Chief Defense Counsel of the Marine Corps (2013-2017)
• Reserve Chief Trial Counsel of the Marine Corps (2017-2019)
• Military Trial Judge (2019-2022)
• Reserve Chief Defense Counsel of the Marine Corps (2022-present)

In her civilian practice, she is the managing member of Zimmermann & Zimmermann, PLLC in Conroe, Texas, where her father, Jack B. Zimmermann, and husband, Andrew J. Daniel, practice with her. They represent clients primarily in criminal defense and military law cases at the trial and appellate levels in state, federal, and military courts nationwide. She is board certified in Criminal Law and Criminal Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and is a
Board Certified Criminal Trial Advocate, National Board of Trial Advocacy. She is rated “Superb” on Avvo for her excellent client services and has been chosen as a SuperLawyer every year since 2009.

A bar leader, Col Zimmermann has the distinction of being the only member of the State Bar of Texas Military and Veterans Law Section to serve as the Chair while on active duty (during her 2008 mobilization). She is a Co-Chair of the Veterans Assistance Committee of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and has served as the Vice Chair of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Military Law Committee. Teaching is one of her passions. She presents as a faculty member for numerous national and regional continuing legal education
programs and teaches an intersession class entitled, “Military Law for Civilian Attorneys” at the South Texas College of Law Houston. In her spare time, she teaches group fitness classes (Zumba, Nightclub Cardio, and Cardio Combo) at local gyms. Col Zimmermann is happily married with two grown children.
