Background
In April 2020, we sought to help our communities stricken by the COVID-19 pandemic. What began as an idea to provide a few hundred meals per week from a food truck to support hunger relief initiatives blossomed into a full-scale food service and meal prep operation, distributing thousands of pounds of food originally purchased for home games to meet the most urgent needs in our communities.
Today, the Atlanta Braves and Chick-fil-A® team up with community organizations and agencies to continue to care for Braves Country while fighting food insecurity. Through the Home Plate Project presented by Chick-fil- A®, tens of thousands of pounds of fresh produce, frozen protein and foods, and hot meals are distributed to families across Metro Atlanta each year.
The majority of locations are selected with the help of the United Way of Greater Atlanta’s Child Well-Being map and USDA’s Food Access Research Atlas, which are used to identify communities with the greatest needs. Distributions are open to all neighbors, and resources are provided completely free of charge.
