Shuying Li The Phoenix Ascends
Stravinsky Petrushka
Brahms Violin Concerto
A dynamic program led by guest conductor Francesco Lecce-Chong, this concert opens with The Phoenix Ascends by contemporary composer Shuying Li. Full of energy and vivid imagery, the piece evokes the mythical bird’s rebirth from flames—a fitting metaphor for artistic renewal and transformation. The concert continues with Stravinsky’s Petrushka, a colorful and rhythmically charged ballet score that tells the tale of a puppet come to life. Rounding out the program is Brahms’ Violin Concerto, a work of both virtuosic fire and lyrical depth. Violinist Steven Moeckel brings his expressive artistry to this beloved concerto, last heard on our stage in 2017.
