In many ways, jazz is a distinctively American art form, but it is also a beloved art form in Denmark. Valdemar Eiberg assembled the first jazz group in Denmark in 1924, and since then the musical style has exploded in popularity. Americans like Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie performed in Denmark, and Danes like Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen left their mark on American groups.

In the present day, Danish jazz is celebrated through major festivals in Copenhagen and Aarhus, with new and popular musicians bringing a new flavor to contemporary improvisation.

Special thanks to JazzDanmark for their assistance with this exhibition. This exhibit is sponsored by Andersen-related families of Croton-on-Hudson, NY.
