Luther College - Jensen Noble 700 College Drive Decorah, IA 52101
Four chamber groups will perform in the recital, as well as students selected as soloists from their festival lessons. Soloists will be joined on the piano by Luther Professor, Nicholas Shaneyfelt. Soloists are announced shortly before the recital.
The recital's repertoire includes Haydn's String Quartet in F Major, Op. 76, No. 4 "Sunrise;" Mozart's String Quartet in C Major, K. 157; Mozart's String Quartet in G Major, K. 156; and Werner's Elegie for Cello Quartet, Op. 21. The first movement of each of these works will be performed. The concert concludes with all students from the festival performing Elgar's Serenade for Strings in E Minor, Op. 20.
The Dorian Chamber Ensemble Intensive, now in its second year, involves students from Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Students are selected by audition to learn and perform chamber literature during the two-day period. Luther music professors Philip Borter, Igor Kalnin, Spencer Martin and Virginia Strauss collaborate with each chamber group in order to refine their skills as both individual musicians and ensemble members.
