Agents of Change: Presented by Luther College BSU
Community Event Art Performances & Education Calendar
In 1968, a group of students led the longest campus strike in United States history in search of equality and social justice for the African American community. Today this event is seen as a starting point for the establishment of ethnic studies and social equality. Through the stories of the young men and women who lead the battle for a more relevant and meaningful education for African American students, "Agents of Change" is a film that examines the racial conditions found on college campuses.
As part of their 50-year anniversary commemoration, Luther College's Black Student Union will host a film screening of "Agents of Change" at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Valders Hall of Science Room 206 on the Luther campus.
Both the screening and discussion to follow are open to the public with no charge for admission.

"Agents of Change" is co-produced and directed by Frank R. Dawson and Abby Ginzberg. It focuses on the stories of men and women who dealt with the struggles of being a black college student in the late 1960s. The characters in this film are caught in the middle of the civil rights movement, the black power movement and the anti-Vietnamese war movement.
According to the African American Intellectual History Society, a scholarly organization focused on black thought and culture, "Agents of Change" is the new documentary on black student activism. This film explores the lives of people in the 1960s and draws parallels to the similarities in the lives of people today.
The Luther College Black Student Union is an organization that was established in the fall of 1968 by a group of students looking for a space to celebrate their culture, accomplishments and share in their struggles. The yearlong commemoration of the 50th anniversary of this organization formally commenced during homecoming 2018 on the weekend of Oct. 26. It continues with a calendar of lectures, speakers and other events to commemorate BSU's 50th anniversary. More information about these upcoming events is available at https://www.luther.edu/alumni/events/bsu/.
