The Maricopa Historical Society's new exhibit at the City of Maricopa Public Library displays art work by a local artist named "Vada Smith". Vada's oldest son, Milton "Le" Smith, will discuss his family's life in Arizona agriculture. In 1943, his father bought five sections (3,200 acres) of raw desert land ten miles south of Maricopa and farmed mainly cotton.
His mother was an accomplished artist who loved to travel. Vada sketched and painted her experiences in pencil, watercolor, and acrylics. Her paintings display everyday Arizona life, wildlife, ghost towns, mines, and historic landmarks. Her paintings and murals grace the walls of farm homes in the area today and were displayed in numerous countries around the world.
