While Grand Casinos are temporarily closed to the public, it is leveraging its resources to continue to serve the community. As a part of Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures' Adopt-a-School program, the casinos provide lunch to students who attend public schools. In addition, the casinos will help the Mille Lacs Band community. To date, 5,379 meals have been donated to local schools students, 251 elder packs* for elders within the Mille Lacs Band community, 169 cases of supplies to local schools, 150 cases of water. Grand Casino has also created quarantine packs** that are given to the Mille Lacs Band Health & Human Services department to distribute as needed. The Minneapolis VA had to close their coffee shop which left hundreds of staff who care for veterans and patients who were without a coffee shop. Grand Casino donated 110 lbs. of coffee beans to this group as well as well as 1,000 coffee cups and a dozen cases of tea. Today, Grand Casino Mille Lacs distributed 350 lunches to healthcare workers at local clinics. We are also giving out 2,000 hams for the Mille Lacs Band community.
*Elder packs - 15 single serving frozen meals, box of non-perishable pantry goods, 1 lb. of wild rice, 1 bag of cedar, 1 bag of sage.
**Quarantine packs - items that a family of 6 would need to manager for 14 days - contents includes non-perishable foods, household cleaning items, leftover storage containers, coffee
Around 60 older adults have moved from Higher Ground in Saint Paul to the Intercontinental Hotel to support social distancing.
