At Issue: California Cars Rules and the impact on Minnesota
Guest Speakers: Scott Lambert, Minnesota Auto Dealers Association

In a virtual meeting platform, the Minnesota Auto Dealers Association will be addressing the White Bear Area Chamber regarding the California Cars Rules that is slated to be imposed in the state of Minnesota. Governor Walz is in support of the low and zero emissions vehicles standards and seeks to implement them through the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

"If any state besides California wants to adopt vehicle emissions standards that differ from the federal regulations, the only choice is to completely conform to California’s rules, as determined by the California Air Resources Board.

If the Minnesota PCA adopts California’s emissions regulations, cars and trucks sold in Minnesota will need to be California certified and will differ from vehicles currently available to Minnesota drivers.

Normally, our legislators would hold hearings and vote on whether the state should adopt a law similar to California’s.  In the case of regulations on our cars and trucks, Gov. Walz thinks we should bypass the Legislature and trust California bureaucrats to get it right.  Do you?"

  • Bypassing legislation to impose the regulation through the MPCA
  • The price of all new cars in the state will increase from $800 to $2,500 per vehicle.
  • Dealers could only trade for California cars.
  • Fewer trucks would be delivered to Minnesota.
  • Dealerships would be stuck with inventory they couldn't move.
  • It would be regulated by a group of people not accountable to anyone in Minnesota.
