With a rich history spanning over 115 years, the American Lung Association was initially founded by a group of passionate volunteers who aimed to combat the prevalent lung health threat of the time: tuberculosis. Since then, our mission has expanded to address a wide range of respiratory diseases. Today, we are proud to be America's trusted source for lung health education, lung disease research, support, programs, services, and advocacy.
Our mission is clear: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. We achieve this by focusing on three core pillars: education, advocacy, and research. For more than a century, the American Lung Association has been entrusted by Americans to protect their lungs and ensure their well-being.
