American Indian Services

In 1971, when Dale Tingey assumed the position of director at BYU's Institute of American Indian Studies and Research, he laid the foundation for his life's purpose: supporting Native Americans in a manner that respects their culture and heritage. Over the years, the programs Dale initiated have evolved, with education always at the forefront. Eventually, BYU shifted its focus away from the program, prompting Dale, with the support of dedicated donors, to establish American Indian Services as a 501(c)(3) public charity.

He took on the role of director as a volunteer, tirelessly serving Native communities for most of his life. In 2012, Dale stepped down as director, maintaining an active role as director emeritus. Today, the American Indian Services board and staff continue to lead and expand the organization's success, embodying Dale's ethos of compassion, care, and generosity.
