Newcomers Group

  Did you sign up for a Special Interest Group?? Are you interested in being a Group Starter? 

We need some Group Starters for the Glenwood Lakes Area Newcomers Specific Interest Groups.  Group starters will get the specific group together the first time.  Emails and phone numbers will be given to the Group Starter.  All you have to do is plan the date, time and place for that first get together. Then as a group you will plan when you want to meet again.

Remember if you've met someone new, remind them to contact Kay at the Welcome Center to set up a visit if they haven't already had one. We want to do a personal visit with our area Newcomers as well as help them get involved in the community.

August 19th - Chamber Cup

Golf Tournament for anyone interested in being on a Newcomers Team(s).

Contact Kay by August 12th.  Four players to a team.  We can have a team of three.   

September 29th - Terrace Mill Fall Festival  (Watch for more information)

PICKLE BALL - COMING TO GLENWOOD!

Jean Noland and Janet Knoll two Glenwood Lakes Area Newcomers and Group Starters for the Pickleball Specific Interest group met with the City Commission last Wednesday, July 31st and presented their request to get pickleball started in Glenwood.

They were very responsive and  approved locating a temporary pickleball court within one of the tennis courts at City Park and allocating $100 for the court to be taped and to purchase some equipment. 

Janet also wrote a grant for funds from Thrivent and was approved for $250.  Part of this grant includes some kind of community outreach event.  Which  if being planned for late August or early September. Stay tuned!

Jean talked to Minnewaska Community ed. and they have agreed to let us play indoors at the high school on Sundays, starting this fall.

The tentative plan is is to offer "open play" on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings.  With free lessons on one or all of those days.  Maybe an evening for play too.

This is moving along fast, but Jean and Janet note that they cannot do this alone.  They need volunteers from the community willing to help give lessons.

Pope County Farmer's Market

Tuesday's & Saturday's all Summer!

The Pope County Farmers's Market, is now open Saturday mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and Tuesdays from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

The market will be located in the parking lot by Pope County Museum (look for the totem pole). 

For more information, and information on how to become a vendor, visit our website. 

If you are interested in being part of the market as a daily vendor, register online or call Kay at 320-634-3636, or you can register at the market. Paperwork and payment will be required at that time.  Remember all produce Minnesota Grown, end product Minnesota Made.  Rules can be found on the Welcome Center website and Farmers' Market page.

Weekly Activities at the Box Office

United Way STUFF THE BUS for Pope and Douglas County.  Drop off school supplies in one of their yellow bus boxes! 

The Chamber & Welcome Center is one of the drop places. 

Supplies needed:  Crayons (8 CT.); markers (8 CT.); colored pencils (12 CT.); notebooks (wide rule); pocket folders, glue sticks, scissors (blunt tip); pencil pouches, erasers, pencil sharpeners and backpacks.
