MONTHLY E-NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2019 Summer is over and many of us are returning from getaways, but one segment in our community that never seems to take time off is our small business owners. These people work tirelessly to be successful. In 2018, according to U.S. Census Bureau data, there are almost 6.2 million employer firms in the United States. Companies with less than 20 workers make up 90 percent of businesses.
As your Mayor, I am 100% behind our small business owners. I always find the time to attend a ribbon cutting event when a new business opens its doors. Also, I enjoy a Tuesday morning breakfast with the Mission Viejo Chamber of Commerce Daybreakers at High Park Tap House. I enjoy listening to our business owners promote their service or product, and when I need that service or product they will be the first I call upon.
On Oct. 2, 11 Chamber attendees, along with three presenters, two directors, and two Communications Committee Members, were on hand for our first networking 101 class: "The Secrets to Business Networking Success."
This class was specifically designed to help the attendees improve their 30-second commercials, confidently and enthusiastically attend mixers and events (and work the room properly), and employ other practical tips to enhance their networking skills.
In March 2019, we had 14 Mission Viejo Chamber Ambassadors and each of them were assigned a minimum of 10-15 fellow Chamber members. It became increasingly challenging to keep up with one's assigned members.
So the call went out at a Daybreakers Networking Breakfast and within a few days there were four Members who answered that call to join our Ambassador Committee.
Over the next several months, many more have "taken up the call" and are volunteering their efforts to serve their fellow Chamber Members (thus reducing the number of assigned members per Ambassador). We now have 30 Ambassadors!
It's with great excitement that we proudly announce our Chamber "Ambassador of the Quarter", Joan Bornstein (Joan Bornstein Real Estate Services).
We take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate Chamber member Diana Moreno (Web Design Pilot) for all of her amazing efforts as the "Volunteer of the Quarter"!
Congratulations to Elizabeth Elsanadi (Century 21/Kaufman Property Group), winner of the "Special Recognition Award"! We take this moment to acknowledge her hard work and extra efforts on behalf of her fellow Chamber members.
On Saturday, October 19, the City of Mission Viejo and Orange County Sheriff's Department will be hosting the 31st Annual Walk Against Drugs and Community Fair. In conjunction with this event, the City will be hosting the 12th Annual South County Disaster Preparedness Expo.
Kick off the event by attending the rally at M.V.H.S. Stadium. Walk down La Paz Road through the Oso Creek Trail to the Community Fair and Disaster Preparedness Expo. Enjoy interactive community booths, resources, educational displays, food for purchase, entertainment and games for all ages! Admission is free of charge.
