Update from Adventure Monkeys
|

We have a million reasons to be appreciative as we move into 2024. All the goals we set out for in 2019 were accomplished in 2023 and we couldn’t be more happy with the way we will be moving towards the future. We began operations in 2019 and had an amazing opening season strictly running shuttles. As we prepared for the 2020 season we were all slapped with the pandemic that inevitably shut us down, but Covid created an opportunity for coaching and guiding that proved to be extremely valuable for our local community of kids. Working with kids on the bike was a goal from the start, so as terrible as the pandemic was, I feel blessed that we were forced into developing this program.
Our roller skating parties have been amazing thanks to the help from our wonderful team, Central Plumas Rec and Parks, and because of the amazing support from Plumas Public Health and the Plumas Youth Undivided grant that provided 99 pairs of rental skates for our community. Full Moon Ski Parties are also continuing this year on January 26th with our new partnership at Plumas Ski Club
The goal for 2024 is to move from a for profit company into a non-profit whose goal is to create safe, inclusive events that inspire action and community development through art, health and wellness. Shuttle operations will most likely change away from the public as we move toward utilizing the vans for transporting rural community members to events and activities that promote healthy living. I, personally, feel that I have created exactly what I wanted, but our decisions moving forward need to be made at the community level and a board of directors is necessary for our continued success. I am incredibly proud of this and couldn’t be more excited for what is to come. I have an incredible amount of faith in the folks who want to help make this a reality and I am fortunate to be surrounded by such amazing and talented people.
Professionally and personally, I have combined my love for recreation, wildland firefighting and environmental sustainability to create a proposal for wildfire resilience that I believe is a part of the solution to save small towns in the west from wildfire. More to come soon, but part of the story was highlighted by @ken etzel and Greg Williams at the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship in the Fall 2023 issue of Patagonias magazine. #trailsarebiggerthanbikes An interesting intersection of my experiences and passions have aligned to give me the knowledge of how to act and to prioritize what's most important moving forward and with that, prioritizing my job at SIG as a Fire Management Specialist. It's a curveball in life I was not expecting, but I am incredibly honored to be a part of their team of people who are making the world a better place.
And I got a 4.0 at @FRC for my first semester in college, ever! A truly remarkable undertaking considering my grades 25 years ago!!! And plumas helitack!!! Love you crew! Thanks for the love Plumas County and thank you for letting me call you home. |

INTRODUCING: John Steffanic, Incoming Chair for the Western Fair Association and current Fair Manager for the Plumas-Sierra County Fair.
John thinks of himself as the classic fair manager; likes coming to the fairgrounds every day, enjoys seeing the livestock exhibitors each year as they come to camp and is happy to drive leftover entries that weren’t picked up after the fair to the exhibitors home. If that means he has to have a cup of coffee when he’s there, and maybe leaves with an extra jar of jelly, so be it. He believes the fair industry is serious business that should be thoroughly enjoyed. John counts himself darn lucky to have such an exclusive job, and would like to believe that every other fair manager in the world feels the same.
