Season Recap from Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship |
The SBTS trail crews built 18 miles of new trail in 2023, including 9.75 miles on Mount Hough, 2.25 on the non-motorized Beckwourth Peak Trail and, with the help of contractors, 5 on the East Zone Connectivity and Restoration project near Boca Reservoir in Truckee.
And that’s just one part of what goes into a full season of work on the trail crew—check out the full season recap here: https://sierratrails.org/sierra-buttes-trail-stewardship.../. |

A Fun Bit of History from the Western Pacific Railroad Museum |
As we're gearing up for the WP Convention in April, a lot or archive work is also going on. Stumbled across this gem of a photo and thought everyone would enjoy it.
Western Pacific's unique mixed train caboose 403 rests in what is likely Keddie Yard. The 403 was rebuilt from a 1916 Pullman boxcar specifically for mixed train service out of Portola. Note the baggage door on the left. The car was painted Pullman Green and, while nominally assigned just to Reno mixed trains, also ran to Calpine and Loyalton. This car, although heavily modified, survives today as part of a house on the Mendocino Coast. Date on this photo and the photographer name is unknown. The photo is from the Norman Holmes collection of the FRRS Archives.
To see more great WP, SN, TS and other history, be sure to sign up for the WP Railroad Historical Convention in April 2024! Register online at https://westernpacificstore.mybigcommerce.com/2024WPConve... More info at https://convention.wplives.org

Party Games for Church People
Introducing 'party games for church people!' These are two brand new games we love: 'Cast the First Stone' and 'Cards Christians Like.'
Cast The First Stone is a game where it’s okay to judge your friends. Each round, a question is asked, and players cast stones to uncover the truth about their friends. This game is a great way to relive old memories and laugh at ourselves while embracing some spicy conversation. Cards Christians Like is a party game but with convictions. Each round, one player will read a prompt (blue card) for other players to fill in with their funniest response (white card). Our cards are unique observations about church and culture that play in hundreds of hilarious combinations. Stop by the Toy Store to check them out in our board game section! |

Groundhog Day is an old Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow, it will retreat to its den and winter will go on for six more weeks; if it does not see its shadow, spring will arrive early.
