A letter from CalSavers Compliance Support

As you may know, the state’s retirement mandate was expanded in 2022 to include all employers with at least one employee who isn’t an owner. These businesses must either sponsor a retirement plan or join CalSavers by December 31, 2025. Noncompliance may result in penalties, making it essential for businesses to take action before the deadline.

Employers with 1-4 employees in your area will begin receiving notices about their responsibilities between February 1 and 21, 2025. The goal is to raise early awareness among newly mandated employers and encourage them to register early, so they can take full advantage of the various resources we have to support them along the way. We anticipate that many small business owners will look to their local chambers for guidance, and we’d love to partner with you to ensure they’re informed and supported.

To make it as easy as possible, we’ve provided all the materials you’ll need in our campaign toolkit, including prewritten newsletter content, social media posts and employer flyers among other resources. You can also access our comprehensive toolkit for additional information.

Your support is vital in helping local businesses comply with this important requirement. Together, we can ensure that employers in your community are ready and informed. To discuss how we can collaborate to inform and support your members, please schedule a meeting with me at your convenience. If your members have questions, they can schedule a meeting with one of our field team representatives, who can assist them with the registration and facilitation of CalSavers.

Kind regards,

Carolina Hernandez

CalTrans Disparity Study 2025 Public Engagement Sessions

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is excited to invite business owners and other stakeholders to three (3) stakeholder engagement sessions to provide opportunities to help Caltrans improve its procurement policies and its inclusion of person of color (POC)- and woman-owned businesses in its Federal Transit Authority (FTA)-funded contracting and procurement.

Caltrans has retained BBC Research & Consulting (BBC) to conduct a disparity study to assess outcomes for POC- and woman-owned businesses in Caltrans' FTA-funded contracting and procurement. Caltrans invites you to participate in one of three (3) stakeholder engagement sessions where you will be able to learn more about the study and tell us about your experiences doing business in California, which will be integrated into the study. BBC is seeking insights related to:

Perceptions about and experiences with doing business in California and working with public agencies.

Any barriers or difficulties competing for Caltrans' FTA-funded contracts or procurements; and

Any discrimination or other barriers in the California marketplace.

The meetings will be hosted online via Zoom on February 18, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and February 25, 2025, at 11:30 a.m., so mark your calendars!

Please visit the disparity study website at https://dot.ca.gov/programs/civil-rights/disparity-study, e-mail CaltransDisparity@bbcresearch.com for more information, or see the attached flyer!
