Cromberg Combined Rehabilitation Project in Plumas County Traffic Update

REDDING – Caltrans continues work on the Cromberg Combined Rehabilitation project, which will completely restore the roadway, and improve ride quality on State Route (SR) 70 in Plumas County. The project also includes shoulder widening, new guard railing, bridge rail, upgrades to existing ADA facilities, drainage improvements and the addition of numerous safety features.

UPDATE-(Location 1): Starting September 22nd, there will be 24/7 traffic control on SR 70 through the town of Mabie while the roadway is unpaved. Motorists can anticipate the 24/7 traffic control at this location to end by October 3rd. Expected delays may extend up to 15 minutes.

(Location 2): Traffic control will continue 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday at the SR 70 location just north of Blairsden. Expected delays may extend up to 15 minutes.

The $101 million project includes 280 working days, with all days requiring traffic control. Night work will be used when feasible and safe. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2026.

Contractor Mercer-Fraser Company, North Region Construction and Caltrans District 2 thank the traveling public and local communities for their patience during the construction of the project.

Senate Sends Rural Maternity Care Bill to Governor

The Office of Sen. Megan Dahle reports that yesterday, Sept. 11, the California Senate unanimously passed a bill coauthored by Dahle to open new opportunities for hospitals to provide labor and delivery services for pregnant women in rural communities that have become “maternity care deserts.”

Senate Bill 669 creates a pilot program for up to five critical-access rural hospitals, developed by Plumas District Hospital in Quincy to fulfill its commitment to provide maternity care for Plumas County. The Plumas Model allows hospitals to staff labor and delivery services on a “standby” basis, with medical teams available within 30 minutes, instead of on a 24/7 basis. That round-the-clock staffing has proved impossible to sustain in many rural communities, leaving pregnant women with no local option for delivery at all. But traveling long distances to hospitals with maternity wards is itself dangerous to women and their babies.
