Solar Panel Upgrades at Quincy Feather River Food Co-op

Our Quincy store just got an upgrade — brand new solar panels now power part of our operations, helping us save energy and support a greener community. Huge thanks to Feather River Solar Electric for helping us make this happen!

On October 24th 2025, the solar panel upgrade of the original Phase I array on the co-op roof was completed. This involved the replacement of 30 18-year-old 120 watt Evergreen panels with 18, 395 watt panels made by LG Electronics.

Prior to this upgrade, the old panels were producing about 2,400 watts around solar noon on a full-sun day. The production of the new panels is now about 6,500 watts around solar noon, an increase in output of about 2.7 times more power despite taking up just a slightly larger footprint on the roof.

These new panels are expected to retain more of their original power output over time due to advances in solar panel manufacturing with a warranted output to be at least 92.5% at 25 years.

Anyone interested in learning about the function and performance of the solar system on the east side of the Co-op is welcome to contact Solar Bill at 284-7849 or 530-258-1641 for a guided tour.

Sincerely,

The Feather River Food Co-op Team

Dental Tips for Kids

Here's another fun crafting idea that helps kids understand the importance of flossing from our Chamber Member, Lost Sierra Dental:

This teacher says, “We used this model of a mouth to show what happens when food hides where the brush can’t get to it. The kids used floss to clean between the egg carton teeth to get the bits of 'food' wedged in.” ~A Sense of Wonder Play School.
