The Plumas Sun Achieves Official Nonprofit Status! |
Great news for local journalism right here in Plumas County! The Plumas Sun has officially been granted its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
Since launching in August 2023 to fill the vital gap left by the closure of Plumas News, the publication has operated under the generous fiscal sponsorship of The Almanor Foundation. Over the past few years, thanks to immense community support, The Plumas Sun has grown to feature nearly 600 original articles and over 2,700 community press releases.
While the transition of business functions from The Almanor Foundation will take place gradually over the next few months, the publication has already taken the exciting first step of establishing its own direct donation platform. The board and editorial team extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers, reporters, sponsors, donors, and readers who have helped keep local news alive and thriving in our communities.
